Welcome to Family Photo Album

As a young girl growing up in Lanark County, Ontario, Canada, I accompanied my parents to many family events. The local families were descendants of settlers who arrived in Canada beginning in 1815. As local land was settled, and new territories were opened, members of most families spread across Canada and the United States, and in my case as far as Australia. Often either the youngest or eldest son continued to farm the original settlement farm. Some sought an opportunity to pursue their trade in a more densely populated area. Usually, it was those who remained behind who retained the knowledge of the settlement period.

The stories I heard as a child, the visits to homesteads, churches, and other places of significance to family have stayed with me throughout my life. The arrival of relatives from afar was a major event in the community. My lifelong interest and curiosity were triggered by these experiences. Along the way I seem to have become a family historian and archivist.

I am searching for ways to share my archives – photos and genealogical knowledge. On FAMILY PHOTO ALBUM I hope to gather and share photos of family members so they can be shared with future generations, many who today are too busy to give family history and heritage a second thought.
